NYC THROUGH THE EYES OF MICHAEL

ABOUT MICHAEL

Michael was born in Manhattan and raised in Bronx, NY. He served in the military for a brief time and considers himself to be an avid animal lover, sharing a 17 year friendship with his beloved German shepherd named “Buddy.”

After falling on hard times and losing his apartment over 5 years ago, he became street homeless.  Even though he faced many obstacles, he survived and remained resilient by staying in the area he knows best and calls his home in the upper west Bronx.

He recently received a room in a transitional setting through the Bronxworks outreach team. Although his room is located in a different area of the Bronx, Michael still enjoys hanging out in the neighborhood that he calls home, where he has strong ties. With his bright spirit, he has been able to make a connection with everyone he meets from locals, to store owners, to the police officers.

He also interfaced well with his mentor photographer, and enjoyed shooting images of NYC “through his own eyes”. Michael is a true example of a success story and continues to better himself each day while remaining a mentor to other homeless individuals around him.
