NYC THROUGH THE EYES OF EDWIN

ABOUT EDWIN

Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, Edwin lives life with a permanent and infectious smile. He holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Lehman College having maintained an impressive GPA of 3.5. Following Lehman College, Edwin worked various jobs, but what he loved most was to spend time with his parents and family members.

Edwin became homeless in 2010 following the passing of his parents and sought shelter in the subway system at night. Edwin was encountered by BRC Transit Homeless Outreach in February 2015 riding the E train.  At that time, Edwin enthusiastically accepted services and placement into the BRC Moving Home Program where he began working persistently toward a housing application and maintaining his health.

Through all of his struggles Edwin remains unfailingly optimistic about his future simply stating, "A day above ground is a good day.” Edwin enjoyed his time working on the Through the Eyes of the Homeless project, and shared his positive outlook with his mentor photographer and teammates.  Edwin currently resides in transitional housing through BRC in the Bronx and is awaiting permanent housing.
